What is a Skin Care Routine?
And Do I Really Need One?
Developing a skincare routine is important for everyone. Our skin is our largest organ and can be exposed to hundreds if not thousands of toxins a day! We are wonderfully unique and so is our skin. We may not need to use the same products but we should follow the same basic order. There are many different skin types and what may give someone glowing skin, may cause problems in another. The key is listening to what your skin is telling you and giving it what it needs to be healthy and radiant.
Basic Morning Skin Care Routine
In the morning, wet your face with lukewarm water. Not all skin types need to use a cleanser in the morning but if you do, this is your first step.
Toners have gotten a bad rap over the years because of their tendency to over dry the skin. Our toner is alcohol free with nourishing aloe, glycerin, and rosewater, making it safe for all skin types. Sensitive and dry skin types can simply dispense toner in their hand and pat onto the skin. I recommend using a reusable face round instead of disposable cotton swabs if you prefer not to use your hands as these are better for the environment.
A little bit of serum goes a long way. Dispense a small amount into hands and apply to skin in soft, upward, circular motions. Do not drip directly onto face as this is unhygienic and wasteful. Serums are used depending on age and skin care needs. Not everyone will need to use a serum. Wait 5 minutes before applying moisturizer.
Every skin type needs to moisturize, even those with oily skin. Some need to apply moisturizer multiple times a day, others only need a small amount once a day. With clean hands put a dab of moisturizer on cheeks, chin, and forehead. Softly massage in an upward circular direction without tugging on skin.
We all know the importance of wearing sunscreen. It is essential that we wear it everyday and reapply as directed on the bottle.
Basic Evening Skin Care Routine
Cleanse skin with lukewarm water. If you wear makeup, make sure you use a gentle makeup remover. I do not recommend makeup wipes, they are not good for the environment.
This is an important step if you wear makeup because it helps remove anything left over from your cleanser. Using a face round at this step may be more helpful. If you don't wear make up simply dispense some into hand and pat on the face.
Eye Cream (optional)
Not everyone needs eye cream but if you do choose to use it, make sure you choose one that caters to your individual needs.
Night Cream or Moisturizer
Moisturize with regular moisturizer or night cream. Night cream can be used depending on age and skin type. Be sure to choose a cream that meets your individual needs.
Exfoliating, Essences, Masks and Everywhere in Between
Exfoliating is an extra step in skin care but everyone has different needs. Mechanical exfoliation uses a scrubber or a brush while chemical exfoliation uses a specific product. Frequency and type of exfoliation is dependent on skin type. Once a month or once every few days may be suitable, but do not over exfoliate your skin. If you do exfoliate it would be after the cleansing step. Essences can be spritzed onto skin after toning if desired. Masks can be relaxing and help us feel refreshed. If using a mask it would be applied after cleansing and exfoliating. Some people require medications, spot treatments, peels, and retinols. I suggest consulting a Dermatologist about certain extras, when you should use them and how often. Always listen to your skin.
My name is Kristin and I started this company because I have a passion for natural skin care. As someone who has battled acne and Rosacea since I was a teenager, I had issues finding solutions. I went to different Dermatologists, tried popular products, and different medications with no improvement. As I was earning my Master's degree in Holistic Nutrition, I learned about how plants can benefit us from the inside out. I decided to go back to school and get a Certificate in Natural Products Manufacturing. Here is where I really learned about natural ingredients in skin care and how beneficial simple, natural ingredients can be. I strive to have a company that is focused not only on providing products that are vegan and cruelty-free but also using materials that are eco-friendly and sustainable. Everything I sell is used in my home by myself and my family and I promise to provide only the highest quality products for my customers.
